Everyone wants to complete their new steel building project without difficulty. In order to accomplish this, see to it that you understand all the necessary paperwork and drawings. Before you can start building, a building permit will be required. The exception to the rule is for most agricultural buildings as they usually sit in remote or rural areas and/or outside of nearby coding jurisdiction. Potential buyers of steel buildings should check with their local building code office to determine if their structure will be allowed before committing to any purchase.
Buyer beware! A number of steel building manufacturers or suppliers will advertise the basic requirements for coding and represent them as sufficient to any and every building process. This can leave you with a building that will not be approved for construction. Check around. Find out if what you are buying will satisfy the laws of your particular area. If you rely upon someone else to check these facts and then you later learn that you have selected a building that is substandard for your particular area, you will have to deal with the financial consequences. Therefore, follow the first rule of a market economy: Buyer beware!
Obtaining your copy of the purchase contract for the new steel building you are preparing to purchase from a supplier or manufacturer prior to purchasing is the recommended course of action. An inspector at the code office will be better able to determine if your building will be approved if you initially provide him with a copy of this purchase contract.
What else will you need to begin the project? More than likely, permit drawings will be required as well. This is essential for your project to be given the green light. Which dealer/supplier are you dealing with? Find out from it if the permit drawing is available.
Are your drawings engineer certified? Many building inspectors require that they are so. Fortunately, a majority of reputable manufacturers will provide them for you. Design calculations can be obtained from them, as well. Most building suppliers will require an engineering deposit from you before complete standard erection drawings can be provided. Most of these building companies will use a computer generated drawing that will include the anchor bolt plan with reactions that will provide your local foundation engineer with all information necessary to design the proper foundation for your new steel building. Diagrams of each connection that will be used in your steel building as well as cross-section diagrams for every part of the proposed building can be provided by the building company. Who will get all the paperwork in order for you if you don’t? There isn’t anybody. The onus is all on you. It is your responsibility.
Don’t forget to be very meticulous and ask a lot of questions. Don’t be afraid to ask them about anything. Thoroughness is the trademark of any professional. So, why be haphazard with your money? Be informed of these aforementioned requirements (plus what is not mentioned in this article) so that your project will go smoothly. The money you save is your own.
